Digital and technology director of challenger hotel brand Fergus Boyd will be the keynote speaker at the first Horizon event of 2017.  Boyd will discuss how as digital and technology leader he creates a high performance digital business that has enabled Yotel to become a major disruptive force in its market.

Yotel has taken the concept of the first class airliner cabin and adopted it for a hotel chain and most importantly taken digital methods to give travellers a simple customer service. Each hotel features digital check-in and every room features a technology wall. Yotel has placed its hotels in the high growth areas of cities close to the startup communities as well as major airports including Gatwick and Heathrow in the UK, Schipol in Holland and Charles de Gaulle in Paris. The business is growing internationally as well with the opening of hotels in Singapore, New York, Miami and San Francisco on the agenda for technology leader Boyd.

“I have end to end strategic and execution control of what gets delivered as I own both back end and customer facing IT, plus the revenue we gain from our digital properties. I’m basically a CIO with sales targets,” Boyd told the Horizon editor recently.

“I led a digital transformation exercise to revamp our customer- facing touchpoints,” Boyd says of how he led the creation of a high performance business platform. At the centre of that strategy was ensuring the organisation has strong intelligence on all aspects of its business performance, including how the technology is operating and revenue flows through the business: “I introduced a new suite of “unconstrained demand” reports (based on website visitor behaviour) which now inform our hotel revenue managers that their pricing could be better tuned. I also introduced PCI compliant payment gateways, broadband monitoring, guest satisfaction and “happiness index” tools to track system and staff performance.

Boyd has pioneered innovation techniques across the organisation which he will share with attendees.

An advocate of internal innovation CIO and CEO advisor Horizon columnist Mike Altendorf says: “Boyd is one of the best innovators and digital strategists I have met and is also very hands-on and has a great sense of urgency and ability work with teams to deliver positive change”.
