Financial services organisation the Nationwide Building Society has appointed the CIO of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as COO.
Australian Patrick Eltridge joins Nationwide from a three year stint with RBS, which he joined from Australia’s largest telecoms provider Telstra where he was CIO for over four years having joined the Sydney headquartered firm from global bankers Standard Chartered Bank. Prior to his career with the Hong Kong headquartered Standard Chartered Bank Eltridge was CIO with major Australian bank Westpac and had spent nine years with the National Australia Bank as a Head of Business and IT Alignment in the 1990s. He began his leadership career with HSBC.
Nationwide said the appointment of Eltridge is subject to regulatory approval and they expect him to take on his COO role as of February 2019 and be a member of the Executive Committee.
As RBS CIO Eltridge has been responsible for improving the operational resilience of the bank, which had become nationwide news in 2012.
Although carrying the COO title, Nationwide said his focus will be the IT infrastructure of the building society and the “development of new, innovative technology”. CEO of the Nationwide said in a statement: “He is a hugely experienced and successful executive whose wide ranging expertise will prove invaluable as we create a more simple, agile and innovative society.”
Tony Prestedge is a former COO and leader of technology at Nationwide and remains with the organisation and is now an Executive Director.
