Cox Automotive hire CIO with IoT experience

Vehicle auctioneers Cox Automotive has appointed Glenn Fishwick as CIO. Cox Automotive says it is increasing its focus on “connected technology”. Fishwick joins Cox Automotive from MDS Global, a technology services business focused on the Internet of Things and virtual networks.

Cox Automotive provides auction and wholesale services, financial services, media, and software, and operates internationally. The business employs over 2,300 people in the UK providing solutions to its clients through businesses that include Manheim, Movex, Motors.co.uk, Modix, Dealer Auction and NextGear Capital.

A study by the US arm of Cox Automotive demonstrated the changing market dynamic the automotive sector is facing. Half of respondents to the study said that the cost of car ownership and leasing is “becoming too high” and 40% of the survey respondents said access to transportation was necessary, vehicle ownership is not a necessity and 57% of the respondents that were urban dwellers said vehicle ownership is not a necessity. With rising levels of urban living, the disruptive effect of ride hailing and car clubs, the sales and manufacturing businesses within the automotive sector are facing up to a market transformation.

Fishwick spent just over two years with MDS Global where he was responsible for customer and product software development and delivery, an indicator of the skills Cox Automotive were looking for in a CIO. Before becoming Vice President of Engineering at MDS Global Fishwick spent seven and a half years with consulting and systems integration giants Accenture working on technology change programmes. He joined Accenture from a role as product development leader at global healthcare provider iSoft.

In a statement Martin Forbes, CEO at Cox Automotive, said Fishwich will be “creating a culture of continuous improvement, and exploring new and innovative ways of working.”

“Customer-facing technology is core to the Cox Automotive vision and we are constantly looking at how we can anticipate and excel at meeting customer needs, to transform our business and build a sustainable and profitable future for our customers.”
