Talk to marketeers and sales teams and they’ll tell you that although the summer of 2018 was highly enjoyable, it has created a severe drag on business activity. Clearly the benefits of flexible working are not fully realised when the heat is on and the beach calls potential customers. Talk to the recruitment and search sector and they’ll tell you there is a real lack of available talent, from DevOps experts right up to CIOs and CTOs.
Certainly the level of activity over the summer suggests this to be the case and sectors such as healthcare, retail and professional services continue to recruit new business technology leaders. Activity in the interim sector also continues to be fairly healthy, perhaps more an indicator of distrust in the economy than claims that the entire economy from fast food to major strategy is going to the gig economy.
