Insurance and asset management business Allianz UK is moving leadership of technology to the COO as its CIO Jabob Abboud steps aside.
The change in the leadership of business technology is part of a organisational wide structural change, Allianz UK told the Horizon CIO Network:
“Allianz UK is making a change to its organisational structure to bring together its IT and Operations teams under the leadership of Stephanie Smith, Chief Operations Officer,” a spokesperson said.
“This change will streamline and simplify Allianz’s business and put it in a strong position to implement the extensive change programme it has planned for 2019 and beyond.”
In regards to the CIO role Allianz UK said: “Jacob Abboud has decided to leave his position as Chief Information Officer at Allianz UK to look for other opportunities within the Allianz Group and externally. Jacob was CIO during a crucial three year period in the history of Allianz UK and worked tirelessly to take the business forward.”
Abboud joined Allianz UK in 2015 from general insurance firm Legal & General, which itself has been on a major hiring spree recently, recruiting major business technology leaders from technology service providers, rival insurance firms and recruiting interim change experts.
Abboud has spent the bulk of his career in financial services and has led technology with the likes of Capital One, Lloyds Banking Group and is a non-executive director for the Motor Insurers Bureau.
“IT remains a critical and central component of Allianz’s business. Stephanie has a strong background in and passion for IT and is ideally placed to drive this combined team forward,” Allianz UK said. Smith has been a change leader for British Airways and was Head of IT Delivery in her first role with Allianz UK.
